About the Ministries Committee

Presbytery’s Ministries Committee deals with all policy aspects of those serving, or seeking to serve, as a Minister of Word and Sacrament.

Committee Remit

To continue to develop strategies to keep before Presbytery and all congregations within the bounds the issue of vocations and keep them actively involved in seeking to encourage others into ministry and ministries.

To support the Enquiry and Assessment Process.

To support the training process for candidates.

To offer pastoral support and encouragement to candidates in training.

To nominate as Candidates for the various Ministries of the Church those who have been accepted as Prospective Candidates by an Assessment Conference.

To organise Services for Reception of Graduate Candidates, Setting apart of Readers and Ordination of Ordained Local Ministers in consultation with the Moderator and the Clerk.

To comment on issues of pastoral care for Ministers, Deacons and Candidates; and ensure that there is adequate support for those Readers, Auxiliary Ministers and Ordained Local Ministers placed by Presbytery and that reviews take place on a regular basis.

To ensure that adequate support is given through named individuals to Ministers in their first five years.

To assist the Presbytery in coming to a mind on issues of ministry support such as stipend and manse provision.

To make recommendations on Ministers’ applications for Study Leave.

To offer opportunities for continuing education and training to Ministers, Deacons and Readers in conjunction with the Mission, Education and Discipleship Committee.
