Presbytery Background

With 78 charges, the Presbytery of Hamilton is the third largest in Scotland (after Glasgow and Edinburgh). The Presbytery meets 8 times a year, normally on the first Tuesday of the month in Motherwell: Dalziel St Andrew's church halls at 7pm (in June it meets on the third Tuesday, and there are no meetings in January, April, July or August).

Rev James Wilson, formerly of Cleland, serves as Clerk to the Presbytery, assisted in the Presbytery Office by Mrs I Sheridan. The office is at 18 Haddow Street, Hamilton, ML3 7HX, telephone 01698 286837.

PRESBYTERY MISSION STATEMENT

At its meeting on 20th June, 1995 the Presbytery approved the following Mission Statement as one which reflects its role:

To bring glory to God in working to advance Christ's Kingdom within the bounds of the Presbytery and beyond.

In so doing:

  1. To work positively to ensure that there is a strong Christian witness within each community in the Presbytery, with opportunities provided for meaningful worship, fellowship, teaching and service at a local level.
  2. To ensure that appropriate support, fellowship and direction is provided for ministers and lay field staff serving within the Presbytery.
  3. To ensure that the views of the local church are represented on issues of wider concern, and that local congregations are encouraged to respond constructively to local, national and international needs and concerns.
