No objector to the life and doctrine of Mr. Mayne having appeared, devotional exercises were conducted by the Rev. Dr. John L. McPake and the Moderator put to Mr. Mayne the prescribed questions. To these he returned satisfactory answers and thereafter signed the Formula: whereupon the Moderator, by prayer, inducted the said Rev. Kenneth A.L. Mayne to the pastoral charge of East Kilbride: West. Mr. Mayne, having received the right hand of fellowship, was suitably addressed by the Moderator who also, in appropriate terms, exhorted the congregation.

The Clerk was instructed to hold the tribute in retentis and to send a copy together with an expression of deep sympathy of the Court to Mr. Douglas`s son.

109. COMMUNION SERVICE
The Convener of the Business Committee expressed the Courts thanks to the Moderator for his impressive and reverent conduct of the Holy Communion Service, to the Kirk Session of Motherwell: Dalziel St. Andrews for the use of the sanctuary for the celebration, to the serving elders and to all others who had assisted in any way.
110. ADDRESS BY RETIRING MODERATOR
The Rev. J.G. Munton, Convener of the Business Committee, having conveyed to the Moderator the thanks of the Presbytery for his valued service to the Court during his year of office now ending, invited the Moderator to address the Court. Mr. Kent expressed the pleasure and satisfaction he had had during his year in the Moderatorial chair, and conveyed his warm thanks to Mr. Munton, the Presbytery Clerk and to the members for the encouragement and helpfulness he had been shown.
111. ELECTION AND INSTALLATION OF MODERATOR
The Rev. Dr. John C. Sharp, Minister at East Kilbride: South, was unanimously elected Moderator for the ensuing twelve months and after a prayer of dedication took the chair and addressed the Court in fitting terms.

1. ATTESTATION OF ELECTORAL REGISTER
The Presbytery notes that the Clerk has attested the Electoral Register of Strathaven: West as containing the names of 281 Communicants and 6 Adherents.
2. MR. JOHN HENRY
The Presbytery notes with regret the resignation of Mr. John Henry as an Additional Elder and thanks him for the service he has rendered to the Court.
3. REV. DAVID P. HOOD
The Presbytery homologates the action of the Clerk in arranging for the presentation of a Certificate to the Rev. David P. Hood granting him permission to accept an invitation to preach as sole nominee in a vacancy before completing five years service in his present charge.
4. REV. GRAHAM L. DUFFIN
The Presbytery notes receipt of intimation from the Presbytery of Lothian of the Induction of the Rev. Graham L. Duffin to the Church and Parish of Loanhead on 21st June, 2001.
5. BELLSHILL: MACDONALD MEMORIAL LW ORBISTON
The Presbytery, noting that six calendar months have elapsed since the charge of Bellshill: Macdonald Memorial lw Orbiston was granted permission to call a Minister and that no appointment has been made, grants the charge a further six months in which to attempt to reach a settlement
6. EAST KILBRIDE: STEWARTFIELD
The Presbytery notes the appointment by the General Assembly`s Committee on New Charge Development of the Rev. Douglas W. Wallace, presently Minister at Glasgow: Fernhill and Cathkin, to the new charge of East Kilbride: Stewartfield, and resolves to move towards the Service of Creation of a New Charge and the Induction of Mr. Wallace.

The Presbytery called for the report of the Property Committee which was given in by Mr. R. Marwick, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed:
1. COATBRIDGE: OLD MONKLAND
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to Coatbridge: Old Monkland to sell a parcel of land to the north of the church hall for housing purposes. Application to the General Trustees has already been made. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
2. LARKHALL: CHALMERS
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to Larkhall: Chalmers to provide disabled toilet and upgrading kitchen facilities costing £31,132 inclusive of VAT based on contractors estimates. Permission is also given to apply for grants and loans which may be available. Application to the General Trustees has already been made. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
3. EAST KILBRIDE: WESTWOOD
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to East Kilbride: Westwood to fit window grilles costing £4,800 inclusive of VAT based on contractors estimates. Permission is also given to apply for grants and loans which may be available. Application to the General Trustees has already been made. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
4. MOTHERWELL: SOUTH DALZIEL
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to Motherwell: South Dalziel to replace both central heating boilers and organ motor at a cost of £9,495 inclusive of VAT

The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to Blantyre: St. Andrews to have funds held on behalf of the congregation released by the General Trustees to repay the balance of loans outstanding. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
6. COATBRIDGE: CLIFTON
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to Coatbridge: Clifton to sell a parcel of land to the south of the church halls for housing purposes. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
7. NEW MONKLAND LW GREENGAIRS
The Presbytery approves the action of the Convener during the summer recess in granting approval to New Monkland lw Greengairs to purchase 3 Dykehead Crescent, Airdrie as a replacement Manse. Funds are to hand. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
8. HAMILTON: WEST
The Presbytery notes the approval given by the Property Convener during the summer recess on the condition of the Manse at Hamilton: West.
9. AIRDRIE: THE NEW WELLWYND
The Presbytery notes the approval given by the Property Convener during the summer recess on the condition of the Manse at Airdrie: The New Wellwynd.

The Presbytery approves the follow on property survey and condition report on the properties at Strathaven: West and awaits the response of the office-bearers to contents and recommendations.

The Presbytery approves the request of Hamilton: St. Johns to fit stained glass windows at St. Johns Centre at a cost of £3,661.50 inclusive of VAT. Funds are to hand. The Artistic Matters Advisory Board have been advised. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.

14. AIRDRIE: ST. COLUMBAS
The Presbytery approves the request of Airdrie: St. Columbas to change the oil fired central heating system to gas fired on the advice of the Churchs heating Consultant at an estimated cost of £15,000, Approval is also given to apply for grants and loans which may be available. The concurrence of the Forward Planning Committee is noted.
117. BOARD OF PARISH REAPPRAISAL
The Presbytery called for the report of the Board of Parish Reappraisal which was given in by the Rev. I. G. Wotherspoon, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed :
The Presbytery makes the following recommendation to the General Trustees for the re-allocation of funds of £770,840 and £124,000 being the proceeds of the sale of glebe lands at Blantyre: Old Parish church:
a. To the Consolidated Stipend Fund for the benefit of the congregation £300,000.
b. To the Consolidated Fabric Fund for the benefit of the congregation £470,840 or thereby.
c. To the Minimum Stipend Fund for the benefit of the wider church £124,000.
118. FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Presbytery called for the report of the Finance Committee which was given in by Mr. D. Forrester, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed :
The Presbytery notes that all Congregational Accounts for 2000 have been examined and attest that they comply with the General Assemblys Regulations anent Congregational Finance, except for that of one congregation which does not fully conform and where assistance will be offered to assure compliance.
119. WORLD MISSION COMMITTEE
The Presbytery called for the report of the World Mission Committee which was given in by the Rev. K. O. F. Buwert, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed:
1. The Presbytery thanks Akua Tabua Aforo for sharing in the life of the church in our Presbytery for the last 6 months.
2. The Presbytery resolves to hold a Thanksgiving Service to mark Akuas time within the bounds within Larkhall: Trinity Parish Church on Wednesday 19th September at 7.30pm.
3. The Presbytery welcomes the visit of the Logos II to Glasgow in October.

The Presbytery called for the report of the Board of Superintendence which was given in by the Rev. W. S. Dunn, Convener.

The Presbytery called for the report of the State Education Committee which was given in by the Rev. J. S. Cook, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed:
The Presbytery notes with concern the Report of the HMI which states that, "in the schools inspected for this survey, HMI noted the failure by many non-denominational secondary schools to follow the advice contained in Circular 6/91 regarding the frequency of religious observance". "2 out of 3 non-denominational secondary schools were failing to follow the advice given in the circular". "This raises the question of the continuing appropriateness of current advice."
122. NOMINATION COMMITTEE
The Presbytery called for the report of the Nomination Committee which was given in by the Rev. M. F. Currie, Convener.

123. CHURCH EDUCATION COMMITTEE
The Presbytery called for the report of the Church Education Committee given in by the Rev. K. E. Harbison, Convener.
It was unanimously agreed:
1. The Presbytery notes the courses listed in the leaflet learning to lead, learning to serve and encourages all congregations to take advantage of those already planned and those on offer, particularly noting the evening conference for church leaders on 25th September. Further information can be had from David Geddes, Congregational Development Officer.
2. The Presbytery notes the Child Protection Training Course to be held in Hamilton: St. Andrews Church Hall on Wednesday, 31st October 2001 at 7.30 p.m., and encourages congregations to send those working with children who have not yet been trained on the course. Further information can be had from Eileen Milne.
3. The Presbytery notes the ongoing work of the Church Education Committee in relation to the feasibility of appointing a Youth Development Worker.

4. The Presbytery notes the purchase of a Multi-media projector system at a cost of £3,370.88. This is available to congregations within the bounds at the small hire cost of £10 per night, £20 per weekend or up to 3 days, or £30 per week. Bookings should be made via Bill Wishart who will also provide training in the use of the equipment on dates to be advised.
